IMPORTANT NOTE: As the carnival parade ends late in the evening, it will not be possible to reach the airport before 21:30 (9:30 PM). In this case, we recommend adding an extra night to the tour and departing the following day for a completely stress-free return.
VISAS: After booking, please contact us and we will send you our tips and suggestions on how to obtain electronic visas and when Letters of Invitation are required.
Guinea-Bissau: A single-entry visa is MANDATORY and can be formalized during the itinerary. Please notify us of this need well in advance, at the same time as your booking confirmation.
VACCINATIONS:
-
- Yellow Fever: Mandatory.
- Malaria Prophylaxis: Highly recommended; please consult your doctor.
- Cholera: Not required at the time of writing. However, it is preferable to verify before departure.
MEALS: The meal plan is structured as follows: lunches feature dynamic options such as cold buffets, outdoor picnics, or stops at local restaurants with tourist menus; dinners are served at the hotels (tourist menu). Please inform us in advance of any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
During transfers, we provide mineral water in 5L recyclable containers to minimize plastic waste. We recommend bringing a personal water bottle.
All empty 5-liter containers used during the trip are donated to local communities, who resell them in recycling markets.
BAGGAGE: Given the nature of the trip, please limit your baggage weight to no more than 20 kg (45 lbs) per person. In order to optimize space during transfers, the use of soft, waterproof duffel bags or holdalls is highly recommended. We suggest protecting your photographic equipment.
TRAVEL INSURANCE: NOT INCLUDED BUT it is mandatory to purchase an insurance policy that guarantees coverage for medical assistance, medical repatriation, and third-party liability for damages. The organization disclaims all liability for any injuries, accidents, material damages, or health issues occurring during or after the trip, regardless of the triggering cause or the parties involved. It is recommended to keep a copy of the insurance policy together with your identity documents for the entire duration of the trip.
TRANSPORTATION: 4×4 vehicles and minibuses. All vehicles are carefully selected and equipped to handle local routes, ensuring maximum comfort thanks also to the presence of air conditioning. Boat transfers include the use of speedboats for ocean navigation and traditional boats for exploring the Bijagos.
TIDES AND WEATHER CONDITIONS: For each departure, visits may be rescheduled based on the tides; all visits will take place, but possibly at a different time. Bad weather conditions may force changes, cancellations, rescheduling, or delays to the itinerary; the organizer cannot be held responsible for any changes and delays, nor for their consequences.
ACCOMMODATION: Properties are carefully selected for their excellent service and, where possible, architectural merit. In capitals and major locations, overnight stays are provided in 4-star hotels, while in the interior we guarantee the best possible solutions, always equipped with air conditioning. In case of necessity, the tour leader reserves the right to propose alternatives of the same category. Twin rooms with separate beds are very limited. Please check availability with TransAfrica at the time of booking.
Safety and Accessibility in the Properties: Please be advised that, due to the architectural layout of some properties, staircases may feature irregular steps or uneven surfaces. Maximum caution is therefore recommended when moving around inside the buildings.
TRAVEL PHILOSOPHY AND SPIRIT OF ADAPTATION: The itinerary is designed to discover fascinating places where a visit from a foreigner is often an exceptional event. Given the uniqueness of the experience, participants are required to have a collaborative, tolerant, and flexible spirit to fully enjoy the expedition and appreciate the unique nature, as well as the spontaneous hospitality of the local populations, the African magic and mystery, the metaphysics, the ceremonies, the life philosophies, and the beliefs that people are willing to share with their traveling friends.
The Organization and the Tour Leader reserve the exclusive right to make changes or adjustments to itineraries, visits, and accommodations, should it become necessary due to local conditions or force majeure, in order to ensure the smooth running of the expedition. Any costs arising from such variations will be the sole responsibility of the participants. Naturally, the Tour Leader will do their best to respect the original program. Prices may be subject to change in the event of major changes in service costs beyond the organizer’s control.
